Our gobots software suite introduces a concept of botfiles, which are YAML-based configuration files that rule the communication protocol with your edge devices. Notably, it reduces the overhead needed to communicate with your edge devices.

What is gobots?
gobots is our in-house Go software suite which focusses on providing:
– *connection*: connect to your edge devices writing simple configuration files ; and
– *communication*: communicate with your edge devices in natural language ; and
– *simplicity*: no complications – just a connection and a communication protocol.
The gobots is released as a Go library, it contains a Cobra terminal user interface for basic commands, including an interactive console to execute commands.
Sick of reverse-engineering communication protocols for your devices? Now is the time to switch to gobots, probability has it that at least someone on the Internet has already described/mapped your edge device into a botfile.
Benefits of using gobots
Writing device drivers: botfiles
Package gobots defines structures and interfaces to connect and communicate with connected edge devices. Notably, it introduces botfiles and a Wire protocol to facilitate inter-devices communication over network(s) or serial connections.
Wire: a standard communication layer
This protocol defines the formatting rules or guidelines to construct messages, potentially with additional arguments/parameters/fields to parse. Communication with edge devices made easy.
Before the Wire protocol, sending a “move forward for 2 seconds” command to a device would need exact bytes written in a programming language that may be obscure for some tinklers and prototypers.
With the Wire protocol, you write these exact bytes in a driver file, and may use commands by their name afterwards, i.e. you won’t need to programmatically build up exact bytes anymore later on.
